Common Ground, Common Good, One Rhode Island

Amanda Blais is proud to announce her candidacy for the Rhode Island State Senate. With a commitment to fostering unity, enhancing community engagement, and supporting families and small businesses. All too often we see the same people year after year and it can feel as though the system is built for the “elite.” Amanda is running not as a politician, but as your everyday person. In the past, Amanda has experienced the struggle to have to work seven days a week to get by; working through hard times of family members with addiction problems; she knows the difficult aspects that a blended family presents; and most recently, starting a business from the ground up. Rhode Islanders have “everyday issues” and Amanda can relate. She is dedicated to bringing positive change to our state.

Independent Voice for RI

I'm running as an Independent for State Senate because Rhode Island deserves representation that reflects its people. With 47% of Rhode Islanders registered as Independent, it's clear that our voices are not being adequately represented. We all are different and shouldn't feel like we have to choose sides. Our current two-party system often feels divided, leaving many of us frustrated. I believe a good idea is a good idea, regardless of where it comes from. Let's find our common ground, work together for the common good, and unite as One Rhode Island!

Life

I moved to Cumberland in 2019 and shortly after, in 2020, I married my best friend and biggest supporter, Corey. Together, we have a beautiful family that includes my amazing stepdaughter, Aspen, and our beloved dog, Memphis.

In 2020, I embarked on an exciting journey by starting my own photography business, mainly focusing on weddings. This year, I expanded my entrepreneurial ventures by launching an inflatable rental business adding a touch of fun to parties and events.

I'm passionate about being actively involved in school activities and am a proud member of the PTO; striving to make a positive impact in our local education system. Additionally, when I am in my slower season for weddings I donate my time taking photos of local shelter dogs to help facilitate adoptions, as well as walking them so they can socialize.

When I'm not working or volunteering, you'll find me embracing the great outdoors. I love embarking on outdoor adventures and have made it a goal to visit a national park each year. One of my favorite activities is biking, and I ride the Blackstone River Bikeway almost weekly, soaking in the beautiful scenery and staying active.

I will be hosting various meet and greet opportunities throughout the campaign season. Please make sure to stop by and say hello. I look forward to connecting with you!

Bridging the Gap Between Parties and Making Government Accessible

Amanda believes that effective governance requires collaboration and open communication. She will work to bridge the gap between political parties, fostering a spirit of cooperation to address the issues that matter most to Rhode Islanders. By making government more accessible to everyday people, Amanda aims to ensure that every voice is heard and that constituents have a direct line to their representatives. This includes holding open constitute meetings, creating transparent communication channels, and actively seeking input from all community members.

Families in Rhode Island are evolving. Amanda is committed to supporting the unique needs of all family structures, including those with stepparents and blended families. She will advocate for inclusive policies that recognize these diverse families, highlight the responsibilities of stepparents, and expand access to educational and community resources. By acknowledging and supporting the ever-changing nature of our families, we can create a more inclusive and supportive Rhode Island for everyone. Recognizing the important role that step-parents play in children's lives is all too often overlooked. Amanda will advocate for policies that allow step-parents the right to attend appointments and communicate with schools, putting children’s best interest first. While not granting decision-making authority, these policies will ensure that step-parents can be informed and involved in the educational and medical aspects of their step-children’s lives. This initiative acknowledges the diverse family structures in our society and aims to support the well-being of all children by fostering a collaborative approach among caregivers.

Small businesses are the backbone of Rhode Island’s economy. Amanda is committed to providing comprehensive support to small business owners through initiatives that include access to grants and low-interest loans, business development programs, and reducing bureaucratic red tape. By fostering a supportive environment for small businesses, Amanda aims to spur economic growth, create jobs, and enhance the vibrancy of our local communities.
